Strategic Overview - Hold On: Trump is Building a New System - April 14, 2025
President Trump and his key collaborators, like Elon Musk, are creating a future, while everyone else is trying to hold together the pieces of the past.
AI depends upon using the internet as its memory. But most of what is collected on internet servers is wrong in some way or other. Without the totally human process of finding the errors and overthrowing "authoritative opinion," society would die out.
Note: This post reflects the author’s views. Others at Promethean Action take issue with the second section wherein he undertakes the difficult task of describing the difference between the human mind and machine learning. It’s a very significant undertaking and we will soon offer other contributions in this vital debate.
Along with the drumbeat of fear-mongering about tariffs, President Trump, Social Security, war, etc., the fear that AI will put us all out of work is constantly pushed from the Empire's anti-progress propaganda machine. Luckily and ironically, the hyper statistical and hyper absurd have the same origins. And your future success is assured by that fact.
First, let's take a look at how the Large Language Models (LLMs) at the heart of AI function. Then we'll go back and look at the origin of the Theater of the Absurd. Finally, we'll make clear why you have nothing to fear. A robot will not make you obsolete!
If I begin a sentence with "Four score," your mind will automatically recall, "and seven years ago, our forefathers . . . ." If I say, "All the world's . . . ," your mind will automatically recall, "a stage." Famous unique expressions have been repeated often enough to fix themselves in your memory. The presentation of a small fragment will bring to mind the entire expression.
Now, imagine that you had so much memory available that you could memorize everything on the internet. Then you could quantify the percentage of times that "and seven" followed "Four score." For a unique and rarely used expression like "Four score," it could be the case that "and seven" follows 90 percent of the time in text found on the internet.
On the other hand, a word like "good" could be followed by hundreds of words. Perhaps "day" might only follow in 5% of cases.
An LLM works by rapidly predicting the next word in a sentence based upon probability. Then it goes back and tests the expression as a whole to see if it matches known patterns. For example, "good dog" is a common phrase, but "Good dog, Mr. Smith, it's bright and sunny out," would be possible, but "Good day, Mr. Smith, it's bright and sunny out," would be a much more probable expression.
So, an LLM does not reason, it mathematically calculates probable word orderings to try to match existing patterns. Those probable orderings are based upon the texts with which it was "trained." As with any software, it organizes, or reorganizes data according to rules. So, if you ask an AI system a question , it's not thinking, it's scanning the internet (its memory) for patterns of similar questions and answers.
The human mind and its processes and development constitute a giant topic for investigation. Begin with Lyndon LaRouche's 1984 book, The Science of the Human Mind. The human mind comes out of a process which is completely different from the development of an AI system:
First, each newborn individual begins at the lowest level of human existence, no matter what the average level of development of the society in which that individual is born. The individual is born the most primitive of human beings. Second, all creative discoveries, on which the continuance of society as a whole depends, are produced by individuals, “within” individual minds.
Coming from different directions, and completely opposite in ordering principles, a human mind and an AI process both do make use of one characteristic of the Universe. Much of the lawfulness of the Universe is embodied in cycles, repetitions, patterns.
One of the first creations of the human mind was language. In order to convey an idea to a fellow human, you must help him to recreate your idea in his own mind. That recreation is a repetition of the process which took place in your mind. So, whatever you did to get him to understand you becomes a pattern, which, when remembered by both parties, becomes a building block of language. Over time, each human language-culture developed very complex patterns of expression, and those patterns often became fixed in social memory by means of poetry and song.
As an individual baby develops into an adult member of a language-culture, he learns the structures, patterns, and vocabulary of his primary language, ie. moods, tenses, declensions, etc. In his early teens, he may learn the rules and study tables, but those formalities normally simply systematize what the young person already mostly knows by ear or from reading. It is stored in the mind not as spreadsheets or rules but as patterns of heard, spoken, or read language.
The process of learning a second, third, or fourth language bears a great resemblance to the process of learning a first language. The student must hear and repeat over and over terms and expressions in the new language which will establish important patterns of the new language in the student's memory. Especially in the early days of learning a new language, the student can feel overwhelmed by the thousands of words, phrases, and sentences which, when first committed to memory, seem to have little to no connection to one another. As the student progresses in the language, he will notice more and more overlap and intersection among the once seemingly disparate discrete words and patterns. Eventually, the new language will assume the character of a dense web of ordering principles and expressions—a relatively complete unity in his memory.
A Romanian writer by the name of Eugène Ionesco, in his early attempt to learn the English language, was struck by the unconscious absurdity of so many of the phrases, sentences, and passages that he was forced to commit to memory. He developed the thought that the conscious creation of absurdity could be the basis for the creation of entertaining plays. He went on to write many famous (or infamous) plays with absurd plots and dialogues.
Grok and many other AI systems are good at reassembling stored patterns of text or images in response to your inquiries. But fundamentally, they are simply delivering to you the items stored in the warehouse of memory, according to the probabilities of common orderings among those items. But the fact that the warehouse includes practically everything ever created in some form or other, gives AI systems the great advantage of memory far beyond what any human could possess.
However, AI systems are not conscious. They cannot visualize a concept. They cannot hypothesize, they cannot conceive, they can only mimic and rearrange according to probabilities. And reflecting the contradictions and absurdities of the data and patterns in their memories, they will continue to occasionally output absurdities. Yet the AI systems will remain unconscious of the absurdities. Whatever one might say about Ionesco, at least he was conscious of his absurdities.
Further, most of what is collected on internet servers is wrong in some way or other. Without the totally human process of finding the errors and overthrowing "authoritative opinion," society would die out. And without humans to make those leaps, any imaginary world of robots without people, would collapse almost immediately.
That is why AI systems will always simply remain powerful tools. We will use them to drive cars, fly aircraft and spacecraft, control humanoid robots, and put them to thousands of other uses that will raise our productivity exponentially. But they will not become your overlords. As they take on more and more of routine operations, they will continue to need human guidance and intervention. Even in the factory, humanoid robots will continue to need oversight and interventions from a conscious human—perhaps in a ratio of 10 or 15 humanoid robots per person. Your job will likely be transformed and your living conditions improved, but you needn't worry that AI will make you obsolete!
