In the Middle of a Political Sea Change: A Michigan Blue Working-Class Community Turns Red

In the Middle of a Political Sea Change: A Michigan Blue Working-Class Community Turns Red
“This is a Democratic town. This is unbelievable.”

Michigan-based members of Promethean PAC were part of an extraordinary organizing experience in a working class community which has historically been a bastion of the Democratic Party.

Every year, the Allen Park Street Fair draws around 70,000 people from around the Detroit Metropolitan area (and beyond). At this year’s fair, held on August 2 and 3, the local Republican Party had a booth which our organizers helped man (in 90 degree plus weather). The Democrats had their own booth, one booth away. For two days, the Republican booth was mobbed. People were often lined up 3 deep to get Trump yard signs. The local Trump headquarters was practically running a shuttle to keep the booth stocked with signs. Close to 1000 signs went out, before supplies ultimately ran out. People were carrying the signs throughout the fair—some were on baby strollers, teenagers carried them on their bikes, young children proudly carried them.

More than once, people came up to our booth to comment on how busy we were and how happy the crowds around our table were, compared to the lonely and dispirited Democrats. One vendor said, “I’ve been watching you all day. If this is any indication, the election is over.” A local businessman was agog, “This is a Democratic town. This is unbelievable.”

One black mother came up with her two teenage sons and described how all the older members in her family are still stuck in the Democratic Party, but that ALL of the younger ones are voting for Trump. We could see that demographic shift across the board. Many, many younger people and young families were marching up to the table.

The people who came to the table were dead serious about the importance of this election. In order to get a sign, they had to sign up to be contacted by Trump Force 47 (the Trump campaign’s ground game) and everyone was up for it.

Long-time Promethean activist Ron Kokinda, who is running for State Representative, was at the booth both days. He met hundreds of people from his district (which includes Allen Park) and over 300 people signed up to stay in touch with his campaign.

Ron Kokinda met hundreds of people that signed up for his campaign updates.

In addition to getting a Trump sign, people received a copy of “A Promethean Guide to the 2024 Republican Party Platform.” While there was a general recognition that Trump is creating something new, people really wanted the details about the new platform and how it is turning the Republican party into a party of working people and producers.

A Promethean Guide to the 2024 Republican Party Platform
The 2024 Republican Party Platform, led by Donald Trump, declares war on the old GOP, Wall St. and the D.C. establishment, embracing a new American System that places industry, workers, and infrastructure over globalism and oligarchy.

Around the corner from the official street fair venue, other organizers set up a Promethean Action table on a side street. They were able to have more in-depth discussions on rebuilding the economy and on the assassination threat to Donald Trump, and made 50-60 more contacts.

This was a remarkable experience. It reminded me of the Hans Christian Andersen story about the Emperor’s New Clothes. Average working Americans were liberated from the Empire’s narrative and could laugh at just how naked the Emperor/Democrats are. More importantly, they are ready to act to take control of their future.
