As the nation hurtles towards a new space frontier, President Trump has thrown down the gauntlet with plans to create a Space National Guard, a bold move aimed at building an "Iron Dome" around America and expanding the U.S. Space Force's combat capabilities.
During his speech to the 146th National Guard Association of the United States (NGAUS) General Conference in Detroit, Michigan, on August 26th, Donald Trump stated his intention to create a Space National Guard when he is back in The White House after his victory in the November 2024 election. Trump spoke of creating “a Space National Guard as a primary combat reserve of the U.S. Space Force. Part of the assignment of the Space National Guard would be to build an “Iron Dome” around the United States, a goal President Trump has continued promote.
“One of my proudest achievements in my first term was to create the Space Force, the first new branch of the armed forces in over 70 years; it’s a big deal,” said Trump.
He discussed the importance of the creation of the Space Force as he railed against the incompetent policies of the Biden/Harris administration in dealing with the war in Afghanistan, the Russia/Ukraine war, and the ongoing disaster under czar Kamala at our U.S. Borders.

According to a report published in The Hill, the announcement of Trump’s plan for the creation of a Space National Guard comes just months after the Biden administration proposed incorporating Air National Guard service members into the Space Force back in April. According to The Hill, in March, the Defense Department asked Congress to override an existing law requiring Governors to approve changes to National Guard units in order to allow hundreds of members to shift to the Space Force.” The Biden/Harris proposal has been stalled as a result of major disagreements from both the Governors and lawmakers.
During his administration President Donald Trump was the first President to sign into law legislation creating the U.S. Space Force, the first new armed service since 1947.
This year marks the 5th anniversary of the Space Force established on December 20, 2019. While The U.S. Space Force is the newest service, the Department of Defense has been working in the space domain since the beginning of space exploration. The Space Force organizes, trains and equips personnel in order to protect U.S. and allied interests in space and to provide space capabilities to the joint forces. The Space Force manages space launch operations at the East and West Coast Space Launch Deltas.
These bases provide services, facilities and range safety control to conduct Department of Defense (DoD), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and commercial space launches. The Space Force, while a separate and distinct branch of the military, is organized under the Department of the Air Force.
During a recent visit to the Kennedy Space Center (KSC) and Cape Canaveral this year during Independence Day week, my husband and I had the opportunity to visit the Sands Space History Center, right outside the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station and Patricks Space Force Base. In the museum is a map of the launch sites of the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station and locations from where all launches at the Cape take place, from NASA, to Commercial launches. The launch sites of the major commercial spaceflight companies include SpaceX at Launch Complex 39A & 40. 39A is the Kennedy Space Center Launch Complex and is where NASA and SpaceX crewed missions are launched from. Other launch sites include United Launch Alliance at Launch Complex-41, Blue Origin at Launch Complex-36, Relativity Space at Launch Complex-16, to name a few.
The Space Force was created less than two years after the establishment of the National Space Council during the Trump administration in June 2017. The National Space Council was first created in 1989 as a body within the Executive Office of the President. The National Space Council was disbanded in 1993. After Trump signed Executive Order 13803 on June 30, 2017, reestablishing the National Space Council, the Council was created to bridge the gap between the Executive Office, NASA, and commercial space activities to present a unified national space agenda. The Council is responsible for making recommendations to the President on space policy and advising on how the U.S. participates in international space activities.
History and Background of the US Space Force
Ever since Joe Biden and Kamala Harris set foot in the White House they have been nothing but bad news for the space program and have been a total disaster to every policy started by President Trump: from Artemis, to Space Force, to Commercial Space Flight, and NASA. This has especially been the case with Kamala as Vice- President and hence being head of the National Space Council. With the chaos in our Space program now underway as a result of her negligence, especially around the recent debacle of the astronauts stranded on the ISS, as a result of the Boeing Starliner crisis, and without hardly a peep from Kamala as Space Council Chair, ask yourself: Can we really allow for four more years of Kamala laughing our country out of existence if she were to become President?
